Ajax Relay: the pulse of smart home

Ajax Relay is a convenient tool to help automate processes at home and in the office. This new device is designed to remotely control low power devices and free up fans of independent experiments and professional installers, who customers are always asking about “smart houses.”

Relay capabilities

Relay contacts can switch loads up to 5A with a range of 0-36 V DC, and in 110-230 V mains up to 3 kW. They are galvanically separated from the actual device, so they can be connected to input control circuits of various other devices, thus simulating a button or toggle switch. For 110-230 V mains, Ajax recommends the time-tested WallSwitch.

The relay closes and opens contacts on the Ajax system owner’s command in the Ajax Security System app. But users can also configure the Relay to turn on or off automatically in response to arming or disarming the system. Since the housing of the device is relatively compact—38х25х18 mm—the device fits easily in a junction box, switchboard or in the housing of switching devices.

In addition to switching relay operation modes, the Ajax Security System mobile app lets users monitor in real time the power supply voltage of the relay and consumers connected via the Relay if they are powered from a single source. If the relay and consumer are powered from different power sources, only the relay voltage is displayed in the app. The app also displays the temperature level inside the Relay.

Relay operation modes

For improved convenience, Ajax Relay supports several different relay modes of operation and various states of contact. They can be combined depending on user needs.

  • bistable, when the contacts close and open as a switch.
  • pulse, when the contacts close or open for 0.5 to 15 seconds, and then automatically execute the action in reverse.

Two-level protection

To avoid accidents and equipment failures, Ajax equipped Relay mechanism with protection against overheating and voltage surges. It is permanently enabled and can’t be disabled. If the temperature where the Relay is installed exceeds 65°C, or 85°C inside the device, the relay opens and sends out an alarm. As soon as the temperature returns to normal, the relay releases and sends out the respective notification.

There are two threshold values for the supply voltage: the lower value is 6.5V, and the upper value is 36.5V. If the power level is too high or too low, protection is activated, the device is disabled and a warning message is sent out. After the supply voltage parameters return to normal, the relay releases and notifies users.

How to use the Relay

Connect devices to Ajax new relay to never waste time on routine processes again. That means the Relay has a notable psychotherapeutic effect as well.

Gates and traffic barriers. Opened by a single click in the Ajax Security System mobile app, which means no more pesky key ring. The app is also password and fingerprint protected, so unauthorized persons can’t access it without your permission.

Roller blinds and curtains. Can be automatically opened and closed when people come home or leave for the office.

Electric locks. Locked when the system is armed, and opened after disarming. Checking that everything is locked has never been easier.

Routers. If network equipment is connected through the Relay, an unresponsive router can be restarted directly from your smartphone. The hub will even continue to operate through the GSM channel and intercept the connection via Ethernet after the router is restarted.

Electric valves. These valves help shut off water and gas supply remotely in the event of an accident when you are away. They also disconnect utilities automatically when you go to work or on vacation.

Future plans

With two comprehensive automation devices in Ajax product line, it would be foolish not to use the full range of their capabilities. Therefore, in the next Hub OS version, Ajax will implement full-fledged scripts to allow users to create combinations of actions. There will also be binding options for events and alarms, scheduled triggers and something else special as well.
